Featured on The East Coast Bride!

Recently, my friend Stephanie who owns her own photography studio, asked me to be part of this photo shoot. I designed an engagement cake inspired by The Hunger Games. I created a 4 tier cake with the bottom tier being a tree bark done in chocolate fondant and the upper three tiers textured with a rosy hue, adorned with red roses and golden branches. The cake along with the shoot was featured on The East Coast Bride; to see the pictures, click here. (Photography: Stephanie McDowell Photography)

Mom's Birthday Cake

My mom turned 48 on New Year's Day... I held a surprise gathering for her and some of our closest friends and family members. My has not had a birthday cake in a long time, let alone a party! On New Year's Eve, I went on to the supermarket to make up a menu for the celebration.

I'm not only a baker, but I am quite the cook as well (patting myself on the back). I baked choux puffs and filled them with a shrimp cream. Also, I made cinnamon pecan twists with puff pastry. My goal to bake chicken pastelitos were quickly shattered when I realized I had a house to decorate, a table to set and cupcakes to ice. So what did I do? I rolled out the dough, filled it with my cheddar, mushroom and chicken mixture and baked it! It was so good!

I was working on New Year's Eve! It was 10pm when I finished the cake! I was busy making peonies, parrot tulips and hydrangeas the day before. My mom loves the look that rolled fondant gets from crimpers, so I crimped the edges of each tier and painted it with gold.

My mom loved her cake! I presented it to her at 12am after the countdown and saved it for the celebration the next day. Overall we had a great time with friends, food and of course, cake.

I'm back!

I am happy to announce that my blog hiatus is over. I have upgraded to a MacBook Pro and blogging will be so much easier!

Here is a wedding cake I made a few months ago for a small gathering. A couture bow and flower sit on a quilted cake with silver separators. With this cake, I learned how difficult tall slender cakes are to deliver! I had to sit in the trunk of the car, with my gloves on holding the cake from being a victim of Philadelphia roads.

I'll be back soon!
